Every artwork is about storytelling

For me, it began with photography—capturing moments in light and shadow, composing fleeting narratives beyond words. Trained as an Applied Artist with a specialization in photography, I learned to observe, frame, and compose with intention. This foundation continues to shape my artistic journey, even as my medium has evolved.

Over a period of time, i found myself drawing not just rendering forms, but also shaping a few of them. While exploring further, in my creative journey i have totally enjoyed scoring multimedia illustrations as wall art projects. it’s only when i stumbled upon the clay, a very raw and hands-on experience i found my calling. I must say that my journey into ceramics wasn’t preplanned; it was a slow, serendipitous discovery.

Earlier around 2012, i was merely painting bisque fired terracotta objects that gave me immense joy, my first tactile encounter with clay but later on that grew into an obsession with a form, and patterns. the textures, the earthy hues of clay, the way light played on its surface—i had a feeling like that of doing photography, but instead of freezing a moment in a time, i was shaping it. the transition was very gradual but natural, merging creative techniques and processing both worlds.

My journey with clay took a meaningful turn in 2014 when a ceramic hobby class transformed my curiosity into a deeper artistic connection, which led to work as an intern in a ceramic studio for a couple of years. i have had great studio times where i immersed myself in a world shaped by hands, patience, and transformation.

Then came 2020- Covid-19 pandemic!!

in a world that had slowed down, i finally had the time to explore freely. and shape n shades studio was born.it shortly became a space where both visual worlds (photography and ceramics) got organically merged. just like in composing a frame, where light and shadow define an image, my ceramic work became about contrast—smooth and textured, structured and organic, light filtering through intricate cutwork.

my designs, whether in the form of hand-built jewelry or lamps whether built in or in slab with through and through carvings lamps, are guided by the same process i once used behind a camera. shadows cast through cutwork patterns, the interplay of form and negative space, the way a glaze reflects light—all of it echoes my photographer’s eye, now expressed through clay.

today, my work is a reflection of my personal evolution—hand-built, not wheel-thrown, embracing imperfections, textures, and the timeless beauty of minimalism. whether it’s the soft glow of a cutwork lamp or the intricate details of ceramic jewelry, each piece carries a whisper of my journey—rooted in curiosity, shaped with passion. and it is a passion for ceramics that keeps me going and each day brings a zest of exploring yet another discovery.
